(WILMINGTON, N.C. (WECT) – The Port of Wilmington is ramping up its container gate hours in response to the potential strike by the International Longshoremen’s Association (ILA) scheduled to begin on October 1.
On Saturday, September 23, the south container gate will be open from 8 a.m. to noon and again from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. The facility will resume its regular hours for container operations on September 30.
In the event that the strike occurs, North Carolina Ports has announced that the gate will halt all container activities starting Tuesday, October 1.
The ILA is advocating for increased wages to match inflation rates and is pushing for workers to receive a share of profits generated from the industry’s Container Royalty, according to information on their website. Copyright 2024 WECT. All rights reserved. Related.
