(WRIGHTSVILLE BEACH, NC (WWAY) — The Town of Wrightsville Beach has finalized a lease agreement with the Harbor Island Garden Club for the historic Ewing-Bordeaux Cottage, beginning in September 2024.
According to town officials, the garden club will occupy the cottage until June 2025.
Tony Wilson, acting town manager of Wrightsville Beach, expressed confidence in the club’s involvement, stating, “For more than 70 years, the Harbor Island Garden Club has worked to connect and improve our community. We believe the club will be a great tenant for the Ewing-Bordeaux Cottage, and we are excited to see how they use the space to serve our community.” Established in 1952, the Harbor Island Garden Club is dedicated to community education, beautification efforts, and environmental initiatives throughout Wrightsville Beach.
Vicki Dull, president of the Harbor Island Garden Club, shared her enthusiasm, saying, “We are excited about this moment in our club’s history and what it means for the future. The cottage will serve as a home base for our club and provide space for us to continue our efforts to support Wrightsville Beach. We look forward to welcoming the community to our new space in the coming months.”
The Ewing-Bordeaux Cottage, built in 1924, is a recognized local historic landmark. It originally stood at 405 North Lumina Ave., where it survived the Great Fire of 1934 before being relocated to 303 West Salisbury St. in January 2018.
Previously, the cottage was used by the Wrightsville Beach Museum to enhance its programming, but the town evicted the museum in March. The museum continues to operate from the nearby Meyers Cottage.
