“Wilmington Response: Community Efforts Support Relief for Hurricane-Hit Western North Carolina”

Amid the aftermath of Hurricane Helene in western North Carolina, communities are facing significant challenges, prompting a continued influx of aid and resources to the region. The nonprofit organization, Wilmington Response, has taken proactive measures by dispatching multiple trucks filled with essential supplies to Lenoir, NC. These supplies will be distributed in collaboration with local emergency response authorities to reach the most severely affected areas.

The shipment, which included crucial items such as baby formula, medical supplies, food, and water, departed on Thursday morning. The assistance of numerous volunteers and businesses, including Caldwell Banking and Coastal Carrier, has been instrumental in supporting Wilmington Response’s relief efforts. President Nick Hiteshew emphasized the crucial role played by community support in enabling the organization to carry out its mission effectively.

Reflecting on his past involvement in disaster responses, Hiteshew highlighted the collective effort required to navigate complex logistics and provide valuable assistance on the ground during events such as Hurricane Katrina, Harvey, Irma, and Maria. The collaborative spirit and dedication of individuals from various sectors are vital in ensuring the success of such relief operations.

Beginning on Monday, the WWAY station at 1224 Magnolia Village Way in Leland, NC, will serve as a designated drop-off location for those wishing to contribute supplies to Wilmington Response. Donations can be made during regular business hours from Monday to Friday, spanning 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. An extensive list of additional drop-off locations is also available for those seeking to extend their support to those in need.
