“Longshoremen Reach Tentative Agreement for Wage Increase: A Victory for ILA Local 1426”

“Wilmington Longshoremen Achieve Tentative Agreement on Master Contract
After a week of steadfast solidarity, members of ILA Local 1426 at the Wilmington port are celebrating a breakthrough as a tentative agreement on their Master Contract has been reached. Following their united efforts opposing automation, the International Longshoremen Association and the United States Maritime Alliance have agreed to a 62-percent wage increase over the next six years.
In a statement to WWAY, an ILA spokesperson announced the tentative agreement on wages, extending the master contract until January 15, 2025, with work set to resume on Friday. While specific details were not disclosed, members express confidence in their negotiator’s ability to secure a favorable contract.
Reflecting on the significance of their battle, union members underscore the importance of fighting for the working class against foreign corporations to ensure that funds remain within the nation. Despite the temporary victory, the struggle continues as the contract’s extension is limited to early 2025.”
