In the ongoing trial at New Hanover County Court, 56-year-old oral surgeon Michael Lee Hasson faces multiple sex crime charges involving over 20 patients ranging in age from 12 to 69. During the recent court session, the defense presented arguments challenging the investigative procedures conducted by a Wilmington Police Department detective. Defense Attorney Tripp Watson raised concerns about the detective’s failure to interview certain eyewitnesses related to the alleged incidents and questioned the integrity of specific DNA evidence submitted in the case.
On the prosecution’s side, Assistant District Attorney Connie Jordan countered the defense arguments by highlighting the significance of the DNA evidence, which allegedly reveals male DNA present on a female patient’s body and clothing. Hasson’s arrest dates back to 2019, marking the beginning of the legal proceedings against him.
