“Brunswick County Progress: N.C. 211 Bridge Reopens Early After Storm Damage”

A portion of N.C. 211 in Brunswick County is on track to resume operations earlier than anticipated after sustaining storm damage last month, reported the North Carolina Department of Transportation. The bridge spanning the canal north of Southport, shuttered on September 16 due to severe storm-related destruction, is slated to be operational by mid-morning on October 10.

Amid the closure, the NCDOT, in collaboration with its contractor, installed a detour using a new bridge. Upon the reopening, motorists will transition to the new bridge alignment before rejoining the main thoroughfare. To facilitate a smooth flow of traffic, barricades, signage, and pavement markings will be strategically positioned to direct drivers through the revised traffic flow.

However, the N.C. 211 bridge over Dutchman Creek, also significantly impacted by the storm damage, will remain off-limits. Motorists will be redirected to Dosher Cutoff SE and N.C. 87 until repairs are completed. NCDOT teams are diligently working towards reopening this segment by the conclusion of October.

Both affected sections are part of an ongoing initiative to widen N.C. 211, reflecting a commitment to enhancing infrastructure amidst the challenges posed by severe weather events.
