“Atlantic Update: Leslie Strengthens into a Hurricane while Hurricane Kirk Maintains Category 4 Status”

“Lynx Miami, AP – Forecasters have reported that Leslie has intensified into a hurricane over the Atlantic Ocean and poses no immediate threat to land. The storm was positioned on Saturday approximately 725 miles west-southwest of the southernmost Cabo Verde Islands, boasting maximum sustained winds of 75 mph. Currently, there are no coastal watches or warnings in place.

In parallel, Hurricane Kirk sustains its status as a powerful Category 4 hurricane, with its effects felt in the Leeward Islands, Bermuda, and the Greater Antilles due to high waves. These wave impacts are anticipated to propagate towards the East Coast of the United States, the Atlantic Coast of Canada, and the Bahamas by Saturday night and Sunday, potentially resulting in hazardous surf conditions and rip currents. The forecast suggests Kirk will begin to weaken from Saturday onwards, as stated by the weather center.

Although no coastal alerts are active for Kirk, the weather center advises vigilance for those in the Azores region, where swells might reach by Monday. Kirk is currently positioned around 975 miles east-northeast of the northern Leeward Islands, with sustained winds peaking at 130 mph.

As these storm activities unfold in the Atlantic, search and rescue operations continue in the U.S. Southeast to locate individuals unaccounted for following the recent devastating impact of Hurricane Helene, which left a tragic trail of fatalities and extensive destruction.”
