“Local Business Rallies Community Support for Storm Recovery in Brunswick County”

LELAND, NC (WWAY) — One week after a severe storm caused extensive damage in the Cape Fear region, a local business in Brunswick County organized a fundraiser to assist those impacted by the disaster.

Shuckin’ Shack Oyster Bar in Leland was the venue for this charitable event. A portion of the bar’s proceeds will be donated to Brunswick Family Assistance, which is also accepting donations of food and clothing. Additionally, funds raised will support the Fix-a-Friend Spay Neuter Clinic in Winnabow, which suffered significant losses due to flooding.

Organizer Lara Witschen expressed her desire to give back and support friends affected by the storm. “I still feel very connected to the community here and the neighborhoods,” Witschen stated. “I have many friends who live here and were impacted by this recent storm. They faced challenges during Florence as well; I have friends who lost everything then, and they are facing difficulties again now. I just wanted to help them.”
