“New Hanover High School Football Team Extends Aid in Hurricane Helene Aftermath
Responding to the aftermath of Hurricane Helene, the New Hanover High School football team has taken proactive steps to assist those impacted by the devastation. The team has loaded a truck with crucial supplies, such as bottled water, diapers, cleaning products, and various donations contributed by students and faculty.
Driven by the significant destruction of football fields in Western North Carolina due to the flooding, New Hanover High School has felt a strong sense of duty to offer support. Coach Scott Monroe and player Jamari Simpson reflect on the assistance they received following Hurricane Florence, motivating them to reciprocate the kindness they once experienced.
Coach Monroe expressed his gratitude towards previous acts of solidarity, stating, “It’s time to pay it forward and demonstrate that people genuinely care about one another.” Jamari empathized with football teams unable to continue their season, particularly for senior players who face an abrupt end to their high school careers.
Scheduled for Friday evening around 7 PM, the team plans to transport the trailer brimming with donations to aid those in need.”
