**Carolina Beach Faces Recovery Efforts Following Recent Flooding**
NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) – Last week’s storm brought significant flooding to Carolina Beach, resulting in the overloading of a key water pump that now requires repairs. While a temporary solution will be implemented for the pump, officials are looking to upgrade its features for improved performance in the future.
Many buildings and homes within the town experienced flooding as well. In response to the situation, the Town Council conducted a workshop this morning to receive an update on storm recovery and to approve a budget for relief efforts.
The Council has allocated $800,000 for disaster recovery, which will go toward debris removal and necessary repairs throughout the town. Mayor Lynn Barbee emphasized the urgency of initiating the recovery process, stating they hope to secure reimbursements from FEMA following a disaster declaration.
“Our goal is to ensure the town is cleaned up, operational, and able to serve the public again. That’s our responsibility,” Barbee explained. “We are extending our funds to kick-start this process, with some expenses covered by state or federal FEMA funds, but we won’t wait on that.”
Barbee expressed gratitude for the strong sense of community, noting how neighbors are helping each other, along with assistance from volunteers from outside the area.
