In Brunswick County, authorities quickly responded to an unusual incident at Waterfront Park late Wednesday night.
The incident involved a red pickup truck that unexpectedly drove off the bulkhead and ended up in the waters of the Cape Fear River.
Before police, fire, and EMS arrived on the scene, bystanders had already rescued the driver from the submerged vehicle. Despite the circumstances, the driver declined any medical help from the EMS. Instead, she was taken to the Brunswick County Detention Center.
As of yet, the charges against the driver have not been disclosed.
Efforts have been successful in removing the pickup truck from the river.
