“Verizon Users Experience Widespread Service Outage Across the U.S.”
On Monday, a significant service outage affected numerous Verizon customers throughout the United States. Tens of thousands of Verizon users experienced a disruption in their cellphone service, with reports of the outage exceeding 100,000 around 11 a.m. ET, according to outage tracker DownDetector. Although the number of affected users decreased significantly, approximately 48,000 customers were still encountering issues by 4 p.m. ET.
The outage was not limited to specific regions, as frustrated users across the country reported the loss of service. Areas such as the Southeastern U.S., which were already grappling with the aftermath of Hurricane Helene, and regions on the West Coast, in the Midwest, and in the Northeast all experienced disruptions.
Verizon, headquartered in New York, acknowledged the network issue and extended apologies for any inconvenience caused to its customers. While service has been restored for many users, Verizon’s engineers continue to work on resolving the matter entirely.
The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) also acknowledged the outage, although no further details were provided. The FCC has indicated that it is investigating the cause of the disruption.
During the outage, some Verizon iPhone users observed SOS messages appearing in the status bar of their devices. This message indicates that the device is encountering difficulties connecting to the cellular provider’s network. However, emergency calls can still be made through other carrier networks.
In such situations, affected users can consider connecting to nearby Wi-Fi networks as an alternative. Additionally, most Android devices and iPhones offer a built-in Wi-Fi calling feature that can be activated within the phone’s settings.
